“Originally from Louisville, KY but now based in the cold north of Ithaca, NY, Sarah Hennies has been building an arresting body of work via a steady stream of rigorous percussion based performances and releases. Her recent ensemble performance (Contralto) at Issue Project Room was a real stunner, and wove together notions of transgender identity, concrete sounds and documentary film strategies in a way that was both totally unexpected and moving.
