You’ve probably seen Warren Ng in the audience at Fire Over Heaven or at other shows around town. At least when we all used to go to shows, you may have. He came to the series a lot and eventually I made the obvious connection that he’d be a perfect person to ask to play. I had a feeling his shimmery metallic guitar playing would work great in the Outpost’s reverberant space and I think this recording is pretty solid evidence that my hunch was right. Like a lot of the folks that play the series, Warren has been a long time participant/observer on the scene, part of the ecosystem we’ve all been missing in these pandemic times. Even pre-pandemic he kept a pretty low profile, self-releasing sure handed guitar music under the Somnabulists and This Invitation (w/ C. Farnum) monikers. His sound occupies a sweet spot somewhere in between Glenn Branca's harmonic guitar experiments and the understated slow rock anthems of Low, but it’s the sense of pacing and willingness to let things develop in an unhurried way that really gets me.
