about

Fire Over Heaven concert series has a nice name.
I don't think I know any one who thinks a great deal about the I-Ching.
I'd love to meet someone like that, who's writing about it, for example.
Some years have passed since I did this Syrnx show at FoH.
I do think it sounds like something I'd play today, given that kind of conditions (gracious audience culture) and space,
I was so excited to be visiting.
If I clap along now, my beats come mostly where they did at the time
the ideas for metric modulations appear and pass at some of the same junctures
some changes I chose not to take, and mark somehow, all makes the same kinds of sense.

But, we've also come some interesting distance since then,
in collective experience etc, and the recording feels quite different
than the show too. I remember the show being very quiet.
And this we had to make feel quite loud to be able to hear it at all.

I do hope I meet the I-Ching people,
but I appreciate already my partial ideas about it.
Imagine like this: Fire over something simpler.
If u forgot part and dropped it, then u only had Fire,
it would be expanded and read Fire-over-Fire .
Fire the text identifies as Clinging.
Fire clings. Can we imagine that properly?
How we say fire LICKS might help.
In commentary (6th wing, chapter 2) Clinging is the hexagram
which gave people the idea to make nets to catch things with.
This particular thing Fire,Clinging,Nets and how handy nets are,
and all the things they can be used for,
and also how its fun to draw pictures of nets
[not net like network. net like for butterflies. is what I think is nice to draw]
this particular idea is what I had been thinking usually whenever I thought about I-Ching.

Then I had the Syrnx show at FoH (and didn't think about I-Ching
besides just to ask, oh thats a nice name how did you name it?)
and now we have this recording, with half fallen off
that perhaps could still turn out useful for something
[I had several other funny things to coordinate here.
My mother surprised me last night : in short the idea:
that thoughts are sensory experiences whose objects are
some specific class of existing things that we can only experience by thinking them.
Like we are sensing the idea which exists independently of anybody thinking it, and the thinking of it happens when we meet the idea and sense it.
And the sensory experience we mis-identify,
because we don't have it coordinated with our other senses,
not as a kind of sensing but as a separate thing we call thinking.
Which we don't give an external object for...something like that.
She was really toughing it out ! ]
